Powder Mountain, the once-sleepy ski area north of Salt Lake City, Utah, has become one of the most-talked-about resorts due to a relatively new and controversial semi-private model launched by Netflix Co-Founder Reed Hastings.
Hastings purchased Powder Mountain back in 2023 after leaving Netflix. He told Graham Bensinger on the show In Depth that he was looking for something “impactful” to work on after making billions on the streaming platform.
The new semi-private model that reserves a handful of chairlifts for homeowners has been the most drastic change to the ski area’s business, but a number of art projects, terrain expansions, and other renovations have been unprecedented.
Now, Powder Mountain has changed its season pass pricing structure in an effort to expand “accessibility for families,” according to a recent press release.
Starting during the winter 26/27 season, adult season pass purchasers will receive up to two complimentary youth season passes for children 12 and under. Season pass prices have been reduced by “up to $300” for teens aged 13-18 as well. Adult season passes start at $1,499.
“Families are the core of the Powder community, and we’re offering these passes to reflect how important they are to the fabric of the mountain,” said Brandi Hammon, Powder President. “Having grown up here, I fully appreciate what access to the mountains means for our kids. We want our kids to learn to ski at Powder, and we’re aiming to preserve that opportunity with these initiatives.”

Powder Mountain recently announced plans to construct a fixed-grip triple chairlift on an area known as DMI (Don’t Mention It) for public access next season. The expansion will add 1,000 acres of advanced terrain.
The ski resort also announced that a new competitive freeride program will start next season under the Powder Ski & Ride Team.
“The program extends the resort’s existing multi-week ski school offering with a competition track, giving serious junior skiers and riders structured coaching, team development, and a pathway into freeride competition,” writes Powder Mountain. “Registration for teams opens May 1st.”
