It’s Sunday, and you know what that means—we’re back with the results of another POWDER Weekly Poll, thanks to the Department of Polls and Skier Opinion.
The subject of this week’s debate is the weather.
Well, kind of. It’s more about the lack thereof. While parts of North America are faring just fine, much of the West has been baking under a good old-fashioned heat dome—the sort that cripples resort operations and makes closing dates arrive sooner than expected.
Against that backdrop, we wanted to know, dear reader, how much further you planned to push this season. Had you given up already? Or were you planning to milk every last day that you could?
This is what happened when we asked: How many more days do you plan to ski this season?
Keep reading to see the results of our very scientific (not really) query. Plus, some thoughts on the results.

Poll Observations
- As established in other polls, we think our questions generally reach the diehard crowd. That makes these responses interesting: among people who live and breathe skiing, the largest group is only planning to make it out between one and ten more times. Part of that could, of course, be geographic. Depending on where you live, your available stock of ski resorts may be dwindling. But we thought the “as much as possible” group would’ve been larger, hinting at people planning to keep the season going in the backcountry. If anything, this poll serves as a reminder that, for most, interest in skiing wanes quickly after March. That’s particularly true when Old Man Winter takes a leave of absence.
- We’d be interested to ask this question a few weeks from now. The heat over the past few weeks has been highly unusual. March is often cold and choked with snow-dense storms. April (and occasionally May) can see powder days, too. While we’re not weather people, there seems to us the possibility—however distant—that winter makes a comeback. Last season, for instance, the Alta Guard Station saw nearly three feet of snow in April. If the cold returns, would people be stoked on skiing again? Anyways, enough wishful thinking.
What We Could’ve Done Better
- God, we don’t know. Maybe invented a weather machine? Handing out free flights to the Alps—which look awesome right now, by the way—would make us feel good, too. What a season out West this has been.
About the POWDER Weekly Poll
We launch our weekly polls at 3 p.m. Eastern Time every Monday. They remain open until 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time the following Friday, with the results dropping on Sunday at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. You can participate and see the results right here on our website or by visiting our Instagram page.
While you’re at it, drop us a line or leave an Instagram comment if there’s a poll you’d like to see next. Skiers have plenty of opinions and preferences, and we want to know which ones might land on top of the heap.
