REI’s just kicked off their anniversary sale, except instead of eating frozen wedding cake, they’re putting hundreds of items on sale. For the next 10 days, you can save big on purchases from car racks to jackets. Plus, REI members get an additional 20 percent off one full-price item and 20 percent off one outlet item.
We went through practically every sale item and found the six best for skiers. Deals like this won’t last long. The sale ends on Memorial Day (5/25), and popular items are expected to sell out quickly.
Thule Motion 3 Roof Box Large

I just drove across the country (twice, in six months) with all of my ski gear piled up inside the car. If only I had a Thule roof box, maybe I would have been able to see out the rearview mirror!
This particular model is a friendly 20 percent off, dropping the price well under $1,000. The box has a 450-liter capacity, aka five to seven pairs of skis. It also has one-hand opening technology, so busy parents can use their other hand to wrangle little ones in the parking lot.
Halfdays Chapelle Full-Zip Fleece Jacket

One of SKI’s favorite female-owned brands, Halfdays, is on sale, and we found some sneaky good deals. Just because it’s about to be summer doesn’t mean you don’t need a new fleece! The Chapelle Fleece from Halfdays is a warm and bouncy fleece perfect for hiking, biking, and travel. With multiple colors on sale, this is the perfect gift for a new grad or a summer birthday.
While we’re all for promoting upcycling and cleaning gear, sometimes replacing is the best option. So, if you’re in the latter boat (or know someone whose shell cannot live on), check out the Highline Stretch from Black Diamond. In three colors (and at the time of publishing, ample sizes as well). Waterproof, windproof, and with pit zips, this shell will be the perfect hiking companion until snow starts to fall again.
Women’s Mammut Taiss HS Hooded Jacket

While we’re all for promoting upcycling and cleaning gear, sometimes replacing is the best option. The Taiss jacket from Mammut will be an instant favorite. Also fully water- and windproof, this jacket has it all—a flattering silhouette and is helmet-compatible! While the jacket is engineered for climbing (and complete with harness and pack-compatible front pockets), the rip-stop technology and hearty exterior will pair nicely with snow.
Kid’s Active Pursuits Fleece Jacket

Available in all colors and all sizes (at time of publication), this fleece for kiddos is an excellent buy. For under $50, this hooded fleece will be a perfect all-season companion for the littles. Hooded, extra soft, and complete with zippered pockets, the Active Pursuits fleece will accompany kids from recess to the campground and everywhere in between.
Smartwool Intraknit Thermal Merino Crew Base Layer Top

Smartwool’s Intranit technology is some of the best on the market. While it may be a few months before you’re back to layering in the cold, now is the time to stock up on a great deal. The fabric is a merino and polyester blend, which helps quickly dry moisture so you end up feeling as fresh and comfortable as possible. Also on sale are the pants made with the same technology. Available for both men and women.
