Yes, You Can Still Ski on Memorial Day—Here’s Where

Not ready to trade in your ski boots for hiking shoes quite yet? There are a precious few ski areas that will still be spinning lifts on Memorial Day weekend for skiers looking to squeeze that last bit of juice from the proverbial orange. (Or lemon, if you skied in the West this winter.)

Here are the resorts planning to be open on the holiday weekend—conditions permitting, of course.

Where You Can Still Ski on Memorial Day Weekend

Palisades Tahoe, Calif.

The Tahoe ski area has had a pretty successful spring, with several storms helping to keep the slopes in shape. That said, it’s warmed up throughout May, and resort operators are scheduling closing day on May 24. Until then, lifts are running from 8 a..m. to 2 p.m. to maximize the cooler temps. Skiers will be able to access the Funitel and the Gold Coast Express for their final turns of the season. The conditions and trail report can be found here.

Mammoth Mountain, Calif.

The perennial king of spring, Mammoth Mountain intends to stay open through May 31. At press time there were an impressive 71 runs still open, but it’s important to note that there’s no beginner terrain available, and there won’t be any for the remainder of the season. Killington Resort, Vt.

At the other end of the country, Killington is the last resort standing in the Northeast. They’ve dropped down to a weekend-only operation, with most of the action on the Superstar Glacier, accessed off the Superstar Six chair.
