We’re a long way from the next Stick Season, but singer-songwriter Noah Kahan is bringing his folky tunes to a city near you this summer.
Kahan is known for his poignant lyrics and for repping his home state of Vermont, but a moment at a recent show in Denver, Colorado, is grabbing the attention of skiers and snowboarders. Rightfully so.
Like other pop stars who sell out stadiums, Kahan has a staged viral moment in his show. His recurring bit involves pretending to take a call from a random caller at a payphone. He’s taken calls from his mom and other friends throughout the tour.

Vail Resorts’ headquarters are in Broomfield, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. The crowd, presumably filled with skiers who frequent ski resorts owned by Vail Resorts, erupted with cheers and jeers after the line.
This isn’t the first time Kahan has taken a shot at Vail Resorts.
In his 2022 song Paul Revere, Kahan sings, “This place had a heartbeat in its day / Vail bought the mountains, and nothing was the same.” Kahan grew up in Strafford, Vermont, and is most likely referring to Vail Resorts’ purchase of Stowe and Okemo. The company also owns Mount Sunapee, Crotched, Wildcat, and Attitash in New Hampshire.
