Blizzard Blasts Canadian Ski Resort Ahead of June Reopening

What did you do last weekend?
Go mountain biking? Mow your lawn? If your answer was “play in the snow,” you’d be in rare company. You might also be a resident of Banff, Alberta, where a local ski resort recently saw a surge of late-season snowfall, creating some gorgeous visuals.
In a social media post on Monday, June 1, 2026, Sunshine Village shared photos of its ski lifts amid a white, wintry-looking blizzard. See below. Keep reading for more.

In the past 24 hours, more than ten inches of snow have fallen on Sunshine. The storm was expected to produce another seven inches throughout the day on Monday. Stills from Sunshine Village’s webcams showed cloudy skies and flakes continuing to zip past.
Perhaps more important than this one-off storm, though, is what you can see in the background: it’s June, and vast stretches of the ski resort’s slopes are still covered in snow.

More recent views from Sunshine Village’s Standish viewing deck.

That’s an unusual sight given how many other ski resorts out West have fared this season, dealing with warm temperatures and little snowfall. It’s also the reason that, after having one of its snowiest seasons on record, Sunshine Village plans to reopen in the coming days.
The resort first shut down on May 18 to free up time for maintenance and put an official bow on the 2025-26 season, but a second chapter is coming. Following a revival of summer operations in 2022—conditions permitting, of course—Sunshine Village will reopen this year on June 20 and stay open through July 5, 2026.
That’s set to include the Strawberry Express lift, which accesses a slew of beginner and intermediate runs. Another lift might be added depending on how the snow holds up.
As of now, things are looking good for the upcoming reopening.
“Going to make for some wicked good summer skiing!!” wrote one social media commenter, remarking on the latest look at the conditions.
Wicked good, indeed. The weather works in mysterious ways. While skiers in California or Colorado might be gazing jealously up north, we’re sure Sunshine Village locals have no qualms about beating the odds.
