RIP Bernie Rosow

The Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain communities are reeling after the passing of skier Bernie Rosow.
Rosow, a longtime snow groomer at Mammoth Mountain, was well-known across the world of skiing for his impeccable skills (both in and out of the park), knack for finding the best lines in the best snow at Mammoth, and for being an all-around beloved human being.
Rosow’s partner, Amber Feld, took to Instagram today, April 24, 2026, to confirm his passing. Rosow passed away while hiking Bloody Mountain, a popular springtime backcountry skiing zone, according to Feld.
Her message has been copied and pasted in full below:
“We lost Bernie yesterday. Alexander‘s favorite person in the world and my love. He was out doing what he loves to do hiking with friends up Bloody Mountain to ski down. We presume a heart health incident and passed quickly. When Bernie and I first met in 2011 he told me he was hiking up Bloody Mountain and yesterday it was still one of his favorites. Last weekend he told Alex the mountain got its name because of its red rocks. Bernie we will always live in your spirit. This has always been Alex’s favorite photo of us. We love you so much. 1981-2026.”

RIP Bernie Rosow, a true skiing legend. He will be deeply missed.
